A Survey on Occupational Therapist's Perception and Needs to Continuing Education

Abstract

Objective : The purpose of this study was conducted to investigate perception and needs for continuing education of occupational therapists. Methods : We conducted an online questionnaire survey of 432 occupational therapist. Data were collected from June 15 to 29, 2021. The questionnaire consisted of a total of 31 questions, consisting of 8 questions for general characteristics, each 8 questions for perception and needs of continuing education, 7 questions for needs for management and participation in continuing education. An independent t-test was conducted to compare the perception and needs according to gender. In addition, a one-way ANOVA test was conducted to compare the differences according to general characteristics, and the post-analysis was analyzed by the Scheffé test. Results : The perception of continuing education averaged 2.53, needs for continuing education was 3.24. Areas with a large difference in perception and needs were the community area and the mental health area, and areas with a small difference were the humanities area and the physical disability area. Perception of continuing education showed significant differences according to gender, age, education level, career, and position of work, and needs showed significant differences in age and position of work. The reason for completing continuing education was 'to acquire credits' and 'to use in the current job', the needs for non-face-to-face education was higher than that of face-to-face education, and case study and lecture methods were required. Conclusion : For the development of continuing education for occupational therapist, it is necessary to develop various continuing education programs and to reflect the needs of occupational therapist.
