Objective : As population aging accelerates, improving the quality of life and maintaining independent living among community-dwelling older adults have emerged as major societal challenges. This study aimed to examine the effects of social relationship frequency on instrumental Activities of Daily Living(IADL) participation among Korean older adults and to explore the mediating role of digital literacy in this relationship. Methods : Secondary analysis was conducted using data from the 2023 Elderly Status Survey. Independent t-tests were performed to verify differences in IADL independence according to digital literacy use. Pearson correlation analysis examined relationships among main variables. The effect of social relationship frequency on IADL participation and the mediating effect of digital literacy were tested using Baron and Kenny’s three-step mediation analysis and Sobel test. The key variables included social relationship frequency (independent variable), IADL (dependent variable), and digital literacy (mediator). Results : Communication with children negatively affected IADL (β=-0.058, p<.001), with digital literacy showing significant mediation (Z=-5.770, p<.001). Communication with grandchildren (β=0.065, p<.001) and relatives (β=0.085, p<.001) had positive effects, with digital literacy mediating significantly. Communication with acquaintances showed a positive effect but only partial mediation with lower significance. Conclusion : Digital literacy plays a crucial mediating role between social communication and IADL independence. Enhancing digital skills alongside social relationships is essential for elderly autonomy and quality of life.

Objective : This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of interventions for apraxia in individuals with stroke through a meta-analysis. Methods : The analysis included domestic and international randomized controlled trials (RCTs) administering apraxia interventions to stroke patients, published between 1871 (the year of the first related study) and 2023. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using academic databases such as CINAHL Plus with Full Text, PubMed Central, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, Korea Citation Index, KISS, RISS, KYOBO Scholar, DBpia, and e-article. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the PEDro scale. The meta-analysis was performed using statistical data such as sample size, means, and standard deviations. Results : As a result of the search, five randomized controlled trials were ultimately included in the analysis. According to the PEDro scale, all studies demonstrated a methodological quality score of 6 or higher. A total of 307 participants were involved, with 155 in the experimental groups and 152 in the control groups. The effect size was calculated using Hedges’g with a random effects model, yielding an overall effect size of 0.489. The dependent variables of the apraxia intervention showed the following effect sizes: 0.670 (apraxia), 0.480 (quality of life), 0.361 (cognitive function), 0.332 (motor function), and 0.295 (activities of daily living). These results collectively indicate a medium-sized overall effect. Conclusion : This study demonstrated that apraxia interventions were effective not only in improving apraxia symptoms in individuals with stroke but also in enhancing their motor function and activities of daily living. Also, the study is meaningful in that it provides a comprehensive analysis of existing literature addressing the impact of apraxia interventions on these domains in stroke patients.

Objective : This study aimed to analyze the effects of health-related factors on wellness among older adults residing in the community and to provide foundational data to support successful aging. Methods : The study was conducted over a 17 week period with community-dwelling individuals aged 65 and older. Health-related factors were assessed using the Generic ICF(International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health) Core Set developed by the World Health Organization(WHO), and wellness was measured using the Korean Wellness Life Style Scale(KWLISS). Of the 174 collected responses, 167 were included in the final analysis, excluding 7 who did incomplete or ineligible cases. The data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis. Results : The correlation analysis revealed significant negative correlations between wellness and body function(r=–.193, p<.05), body structures(r=–.322, p<.001), and activities and social participation (r=–.388, p<.001). In contrast, environmental factors(r=.191, p<.05), educational level(r=.522, p<.001), and economic status(r=.496, p<.001) showed significant positive correlations with wellness. Multiple regression analysis identified activities and social participation (β=–.337, p<.001), educational level (β=.411, p<.001), and economic status (β=.381, p<.001) as significant predictors of wellness, accounting for 52.5% of the variance (R²=.525). Conclusion : Enhancing the wellness of older adults requires a multidimensional approach that strengthens functional independence activities and participation capacities, expands access to educational opportunities, and provides financial support. Accordingly, community-based occupational therapy programs should move beyond narrowly medicalized interventions and adopt integrated models designed to promote older adults’ autonomy and engagement in social roles.

Objective : This study aimed to investigate the effects of daily life satisfaction and experiences of discrimination on the Happiness of individuals with visual impairments. Method : The study analyzed data from the 8th wave of the second Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled(PSED), selecting 487 respondents with visual impairments. Pearson’s correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were conducted to examine the relationships with Happiness. Result : Correlation analysis revealed that experiences of discrimination in daily life due to disability were positively correlated with Happiness(r=.339, p<.01), while severity of disability(r=–.091, p<.05) and the presence of multiple disabilities(r=–.174, p<.001) were negatively correlated. The regression analysis showed that daily life satisfaction, experiences of discrimination, and the presence of multiple disabilities significantly influenced Happiness, with these variables explaining 28.1% of the variance in Happiness. Conclusion : The findings suggest that enhancing daily life satisfaction and reducing discrimination through social support and institutional measures are essential for improving the Happiness of individuals with visual impairments. This study can serve as foundational data for policy development and practical strategies to enhance the happiness of people with visual disabilities.

Objectives : To evaluate the correlation between bulbar symptoms, swallowing, and respiratory function in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and to determine the clinical utility of the Korean version of the ALS Functional Rating Scale-Revised (K-ALSFRS-R) in predicting objective swallowing and pulmonary function test results. Method : This retrospective cross-sectional study reviewed the medical records of 80 patients with ALS. Functional status was assessed using the K-ALSFRS-R, a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM). In particular, bulbar symptoms were evaluated using the bulbar domain subscore (b-K-ALSFRS-R), which comprises items related to speech, swallowing, and salivation. Swallowing function was assessed using videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS), specifically measuring oral transit time (OTT) and Penetration-Aspiration Scale (PAS) scores for liquid, semisolid and solid consistencies. Respiratory function was evaluated through pulmonary function tests (PFT), including forced vital capacity (FVC), peak cough flow (PCF), maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), and maximal expiratory pressure (MEP), measured in both supine and sitting positions. Pearson’s correlation coefficients were used for statistical analysis. Results : The mean age of the 80 patients with ALS was 60 years, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.8:1. The average disease duration was 2.7 years. The mean total scores for the K-ALSFRS-R and b-K-ALSFRS-R were 18.8 and 6.4, respectively. The b-K-ALSFRS-R score showed significant correlations with both PFT and VFSS parameters (OTT and PAS scores for liquid and solid diet). In contrast, while the total K-ALSFRS-R score was significantly correlated with PFT parameters, it was not significantly associated with VFSS results. Conclusions : Bulbar symptoms, as measured by the b-K-ALSFRS-R, may serve as a useful clinical indicator of both dysphagia and respiratory decline in patients with ALS.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the differences in multiple intelligence according to general characteristics by examining the multiple intelligence of school children diagnosed with ADHD. Methods : This study compared and analyzed the differences in general characteristics of intelligence in eight areas by conducting multiple intelligence tests from June 2024 to December 2024 on 150 ADHD children visiting institutions that are performing treatment and counseling. Resutls : The results of the study were as follows: First, in terms of gender, there was a significance in logical mathematics intelligence. Second, there was a significance in linguistic Intelligence and interpersonal intelligence at age. Third, in the duration of illness, there was a significance in most intelligences such as logical mathematics intelligence, spatial intelligence, linguistic intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and intrapersonal intelligence. Fourth, by academic performance, there was a significance in all intelligences except bodily kinesthetic intelligence such as musical intelligence, logical mathematics intelligence, spatial intelligence, linguistic intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence, and naturalist intelligence. Fifth, there was no significance in multiple intelligences at the economic level. Sixth, in the comparative analysis of the total value of multiple intelligence of ADHD children according to general characteristics, there was a significant difference in the duration of disease and academic performance. Conclusion : This study compared and analyzed multiple intelligence according to the general characteristics of children with ADHD, and the results of the study can be used as basic data for the development and selection of intervention programs for children with ADHD in community occupational therapy

Objective : This study was designed to test the effectiveness of a nature-based craft program on hand function, attention, and depression of the elderly in community and to pilot the possibility of an indoor program for health care. Methods : The study participants were 10 elderly over 65 years old registered in a dementia care center in Jeollabuk-do, South Korea. The participants joined 8 sessions of a nature-based craft program. Before and after the intervention, hand dexterity was measured by the 9-Hole Peg Test, attention was measured by the Digit Span Test, and depression was measured by the Geriatric Deprssion Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 for descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results : There was a significant decrease in hand dexterity measurements (9-Hole Peg Test) before and after the nature-based craft program (p<.01). There was a significant increase on the Digit Span Test (DST), Forward Digit Span Test (FDST) (p<.05), but not on the Backward Digit Span Test (BDST) (p>.05). Also, there was a significant decrease in depression scale (GDSSF-K) scores (p<.05). Conclusion : A nature-based craft program improved hand function and attention of the elderly in community and had a positive effect on depression reduction. The approach of combining natural elements and creative activities are expected to be useful in the field of community occupational therapy as an indoor intervention program to improve health care for the elderly. Future study is needed to determine long-term effects and develop a systematic and sustainable program.

Objective : This study is to verify the construct validity of the sensory processing assessment tool for schools, Rasch analysis was used. Methods : An evaluation was conducted with teachers of general elementary schools teaching first to sixth grades nationwide to verify the validity of the sensory processing assessment tool for schools. In order to distinguish between the general group and the suspected ADHD group, the Korean version of the ADHD Scale for teachers was also requested. The final evaluation was conducted on 294 people, of which 206 were in the general group and 88 were in the suspected ADHD group. For subsequent analysis, Rasch analysis was performed. Results : Through the Rasch analysis, 5 unsuitable subjects were excluded and 9 unsuitable questions were deleted. Accordingly, the completed evaluation tool consisted of a total of 78 questions. The rating scale was modified to a 3-point scale, and the reliability of item separation was judged to be excellent, and the reliability of subject separation was judged to be acceptable. Conclusion : Through this study, it was confirmed that the construct validity of the sensory processing assessment tool for schools was excellent. Therefore, based on the results of this study, it is expected that it will be useful in selecting students with sensory processing difficulties at school.

Objective : This study aimed to identify the quantitative changes and trends in research topics related to vocational rehabilitation in Korea over time, thereby examining shifts in the domestic vocational rehabilitation paradigm. Methods : The study analyzed a total of 1,531 academic and thesis publications related to vocational rehabilitation, which were registered in the database of the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS) by 2023. Quantitative analysis was conducted on the collected data, and general frequency analysis and keyword analysis, and topic modeling were applied to 938 documents that contained abstracts. For topic modeling, the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) algorithm was used to classify keywords. Excel, SPSS, and R were used for analysis. Results : The quantitative analysis revealed 904 academic papers and 627 theses. The Korean Society of Vocational Rehabilitation had the highest number of academic publications, while Daegu University produced the most theses. In the keyword frequency analysis of vocational rehabilitation studies, "job" had the highest frequency, followed by "persons with disabilities", "vocational rehabilitation", "rehabilitation facilities", "needs", and "society". Among the 11 main topics derived from topic modeling, "Topic 7: Return to Work for Injured Workers" was the most commonly discussed. The analysis of changes in research topics over time showed that "Topic 2: The Meaning and Value of Vocational Rehabilitation Based on Personal Experience", "Topic 6: Effectiveness of Vocational Rehabilitation Services", and "Topic 7: Return to Work for Injured Workers" have been steadily increasing, whereas "Topic 5: Personal and Social Efforts for Economic Independence", "Topic 8: Policy and System Improvement to Promote Employment of Persons with Disabilities", and "Topic 9: Vocational Training for Successful Employment and Job Retention" have been decreasing. Conclusion : This study confirmed that vocational rehabilitation can be defined as "achieving employment and satisfaction for persons with disabilities through rehabilitation facilities, social support, services, and programs", aligning closely with the goals and directions of occupational therapy. It was also found that the quantitative and qualitative changes in vocational rehabilitation research are closely related to the enactment and revision of national laws and policies.

Objective : This study aimed to provide basic data for finding ways to manage and promote the health of the elderly by analyzing the relationship between grip strength and the ability to perform activities of daily living in the elderly depending on whether or not they exercise regularly. Method : A secondary analysis was conducted on 5,192 subjects from the 9th (2022) Aging Research Panel Survey raw data. The relationships between the variables were analyzed by selecting the elderly's grip strength, basic activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, regular exercise, and control variables. Result : The main results of this study were as follows: First, among the factors affecting the activities of daily living, the score was significantly lower for women, those under 75 years of age, those with a middle school diploma or higher, those with a marital status, and those without hypertension or diabetes, indicating a higher ability to perform activities of daily living (p<0.05). Second, the higher the grip strength, the lower the score of activities of daily living, and there was a negative correlation in the correlation analysis (r=-0.60, p=0.00), and in the multiple regression analysis, the grip strength was found to have a negative effect on the score of activities of daily living (β =-0.06, p=0.00). Third, even when controlling for demographic factors, health behavior factors, and regular exercise, it had a negative effect of 11-14% on the scores of basic and instrumental activities of daily living (p<0.05), confirming that the higher the grip strength, the higher the ability to perform activities of daily living. Fourth, the group that exercised regularly had significantly lower scores on activities of daily living (p<0.05), and in particular, in the 1st quartile group with the lowest grip strength, there was a significant difference in the scores on activities of daily living depending on whether or not they exercised regularly, indicating that regular exercise had a greater effect on the ability to perform activities of daily living when grip strength was low. Conclusion : In order to improve the elderly's ability to perform activities of daily living to enhance their independence, it is thought that developing an intervention program that allows them to participate in regular exercise in their daily lives, along with grip strength training, could be one strategy for improving the elderly's ability to perform activities of daily living.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze how physical activity, sleep, and mental health, which are generally seen in elderly stroke patients, affect the quality of life of individual patients and to provide basic data for the development of a community rehabilitation intervention program. Methods : We analyzed the amount of physical activity, quality of sleep, stress, and quality of life through a questionnaire targeting elderly stroke patients using welfare facilities for the disabled, and confirmed the correlation between variables. We also conducted a regression analysis to analyze the effects of physical activity, quality of sleep, and stress on quality of life. Results : The results of this study were as follows: First, there were significant differences in gender, education level, and economic level in comparing the general characteristics of elderly stroke patients. Second, there was a significant correlation in comparing the correlation between the quality of life of elderly stroke patients and physical activity, sleep, and mental health. Third, the physical activity, sleep, and mental health of elderly stroke patients affected the quality of life. Conclusion : For stroke patients who experience difficulties in the form of physical, mental, social, and environmental burdens, prevention is the most important, and after the onset, we should do our best to use accurate basic data to provide intervention and rehabilitation to improve the quality of life.

Objective : This study aims to contribute to developing improved strategies for the rehabilitation programs of stroke patients by analyzing the relationship between obesity, relative grip strength, subjective health status, and health-related quality of life in stroke patients. Method : A secondary analysis was conducted on 651 stroke patients among the raw data from the 6th, second year(2014) to the 8th, first year(2019) of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, in which the grip strength test was conducted. Obesity, relative grip strength, subjective health status, health-related quality of life, and control variables of stroke patients were selected and the relationship between each variable was analyzed. Result : The main results of this study are: First, factors affecting health-related quality of life included subjective health status(β=0.39, p=0.00) and relative grip strength(β=0.28, p=0.00), and obesity have no significant effect. Second, it was confirmed that the interaction between relative grip strength and body mass index showed a positive relationship with health-related quality of life after adjusting for sociodemographic and health behavior factors(β=0.27, p=0.00). Third, the group with high relative grip strength had a significantly higher health-related quality of life than the group with low relative grip strength(F=14.78, p=0.00). Fourth, the group with good subjective health status had significantly higher health-related quality of life than the group with poor subjective health status (F=12.64, p=0.00). Conclusion : Since relative grip strength is a major factor in evaluating the subjective health status and health-related quality of life of stroke patients, an intervention program through strength training, including grip strength training, was attempted to improve the quality of life for patients whose quality of life is expected to decline. In addition, the application of differentiated intervention programs according to the size of relative grip strength in obese group can be a way to improve the health-related quality of life of stroke patients.

Objective : This study attempted to identify differences in performance in daily life activities and participation in leisure activities according to grip strength for the elderly by age and gender group in Korea, and to present basic data on the actual conditions of the elderly in Korea. Methods : Based on the 8th year survey data of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA) collected from August 2020 to December of the same year, 3,789 elderly people over 65 years of age were targeted. The elderly were divided by gender, age, dominant hand, and non-dominant hand to check the grip strength, the degree of performance of basic activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living, and the degree of participation in leisure activities, and the relevance of each variable was analyzed. Continuous variable analysis by grip strength for the elderly was analyzed using an independent t-test. Results : In the difference in activities of daily living by the grip strength, there was a significant difference in instrumental activities of daily living of both men and women over the age of 75 (p<.05). The elderly under the age of 75 showed no significant difference by the grip strength in both activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living (p>.05). In the difference in leisure by the grip strength, there was a significant difference in the number of travel, tourism, and outing experiences for men of all ages and women aged 75 to 84, and there was a significant difference in the viewing number of movies, performances, concerts, exhibitions, and sports games for men aged 75 to 84, and for women aged 65 to 74, there was a significant difference in the time to participate in hobbies and entertainment-related meetings or programs for women aged 75 to 84 (p<.05). Conclusion : Since the elderly with high grip strength were found to have high activities of daily living and leisure, efforts to improve grip strength are needed to improve the elderly's daily functions.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Life skills occupational therapy program on the improvement of psychotic symptoms, functional performance, social functions, and performance capacity of daily activities in chronic schizophrenia patients. Methods : It was conducted on 19 patients registered at the Mental Health Welfare Center. The program applied to the study group was developed overseas and was modified and supplemented according to the domestic situation and was conducted once a week for 75 minutes, a total of 16 times. Results : As a result of comparing before and after the program, the study group showed a significant effect on psychotic symptoms, functional performance, social functions, and activities of daily living. Control group was a significant difference in some part of social functions, but there were no significant differences in other areas. When comparing the changes between the groups after the program, there were significant differences in positive symptoms and overall symptoms, which are subtypes of psychotic symptoms. Conclusion : In this study, it was confirmed that there was a positive effect on symptom improvement and performance capacity of daily activities as a result of applying Life skills occupational therapy program to patients with chronic schizophrenia living in the community.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing the quality of life of stroke elderly. Methods : The number of samples was calculated using the G*Power 3.1 program, and the study was conducted on a total of 164 elderly stroke patients. The 2019 National Statistical Office's Living Time Diary was used to evaluate the study subjects' time use, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF evaluation tool was used to evaluate the quality of life. Pearson's correlation coefficient and multilinear regression analysis were performed to identify variables that can predict the quality of life of the study subjects' time use. Results : The results of this study can be divided into two main categories. First, a correlation analysis of variables affecting the quality of life was conducted, and as a result, instrumental activities of daily living (r=.367, p<.001), leisure (r=.315, p<.001), and social participation (r=.205, p<.01) showed a positive correlation, while rest and sleep (r=-.396, p<.001) showed a negative correlation. Second, as a result of analyzing the causal relationship between time use and quality of life, the F value (21.386), which represents the model's suitability, was statistically significant (p<.001), and the modified coefficient of determination (Adj. R2) representing the model's explanatory power was found to explain 20% of the quality of life by rest and sleep (B=-.002, p<.001) and activities of daily living (B=-.002, p<.01) Conclusion : Balanced time use is significantly correlated with quality of life of the elderly with stroke. Providing opportunities to actively participate in a variety of tasks should be considered when approaching occupational therapy interventions to improve quality of life of the elderly with stroke.

Objective : By examining the effects of satisfaction and working environment on stress for occupational therapists working in nursing facilities, it was intended to provide basic data on human management of nursing facilities and strategies for positive change and improvement of mental health of occupational therapists. Methods : For 6 weeks from june to july 2023, 160 occupational therapists working in nursing facilities located in 7 cities and provinces were conducted. descriptive statistics were conducted for general characteristics, Pearson correlation analysis was conducted for the correlation between stress, general characteristics, working environment, and satisfaction, and multiple regression analysis was conducted to identify factors affecting stress. Results : The results of this study were, first, There was a significant difference in stress according to the economic level and work experience of occupational therapists in nursing facilities. second, the stress of occupational therapists in nursing facilities was significantly correlated with satisfaction, working environment, economic level and work experience. third, working environment and satisfaction were found to have an effect on the stress of work therapists in nursing facilities. Conclusion : It can be seen that the improvement of the working environment and satisfaction can have a positive effect on stress, a mental problem of occupational therapists working in nursing facilities, and these data can be used to apply to human management of nursing facilities.
