Investigation on the Needs of Community Social Welfare Center Service Programs

Abstract

Objective : This study conducted a survey on the needs of the local community comprehensive social welfare center program targeting local residents in the D area of Chungnam, and tried to analyze the information on the service program needs of the local community comprehensive social welfare center. Methods : Using a structured questionnaire, a survey was conducted on 306 citizens of the local community from April 01, 2022 to May 31, 2022, mainly in the D area of Chungcheongnam-do. The questionnaire consisted of 11 questions about the general characteristics of the subjects and 6 questions related to the desired service program of a community social welfare center. It was finally analyzed that the response rate of the collected questionnaires was over 60%. Results : ‘Health and medical service business program (18.6%)' was the top priority for the desired program of community social welfare centers, and by age group, ‘psychological and emotional support' and ‘crisis family support (19%)' were the highest among teenagers. ‘Psycho-emotional support (26.5%)' was highest among those in their 20s and 30s, ‘social education program (35.8%)' among those in their 40s and 50s, and ‘Health service program (24.1%)' among those in their 60s or older. When asked about their intention to participate in the welfare center service program, 48% and 61.5% of those in their 40s and 50s and over 60s gave positive answers, respectively, and 85.7% and 61.5% of those in their 20s and 30s answered negatively, indicated the answer. In the health care service program, ‘health treatment (35%)' was the highest, followed by ‘rehabilitation treatment (24.8%)'. As a desired rehabilitation treatment program, ‘musculoskeletal rehabilitation' was the highest at 62% and 54.2%, in teenagers and in their 20s and 30s, respectively, and ‘cognitive (dementia) rehabilitation program' in their 40s and 50s and over 60s, 34.7% and 50.6%, respectively were the highest. As for the desired leisure activity program, ‘Adult Certification Class (30.9%)' was the highest among adults in their 20s and 50s, ‘Senior Health Gymnastics Class (54.2%)' for those in their 60s and over, and ‘Reading Activities (17.3%)' in the children's program was the highest. In the elderly welfare program, both men and women had the highest expectations for ‘health counseling and rehabilitation program' with 55.3% and 57.8%, respectively. Conclusion : The most desired service program among those in their 60s or older who answered most positively about using the community comprehensive social welfare center program was the health care service business program, and among them, it was necessary to establish a health care treatment and specialized rehabilitation treatment program. Among the specialized rehabilitation treatments, cognitive (dementia) rehabilitation was analyzed in the order, and they answered that it is the most necessary part of recruiting professional manpower for the establishment and operation of these programs. In the future, it is thought that it is necessary to recruit professional manpower to open and operate these programs at community social welfare centers.
