The Effects of the Perception for Disabled Elderly on Relational Aggression of the General Elderly

Abstract

Purpose : This study was to identify how the perception of the disabled elderly affects relational aggression, clarify the need for an expert improvement program, and provide data for the smooth relationship of the elderly using community elderly facilities. Method : A survey of 134 people was conducted to find out the level of awareness through the acceptance attitude toward disabled elderly for the general elderly aged 65 or older who visit community elderly facilities. Based on the results of the survey, a statistical analysis was conducted to reveal the causal relationship existing in the perception of the general elderly for the elderly with disabilities. Result : First, there was a significant difference in the acceptance attitude toward disabled according to demographic characteristics in terms of final education, spouse presence, and economic level. Second, there was a significant difference in relational aggression according to demographic characteristics at the final education, housing type, and economic level. Third, in the sub-area of the acceptance attitude of the elderly with disabilities, it was found that the acceptance attitude toward disabled, the perception of the work ability of the disabled, and the favor as reason for the disabled affect relational aggression. Conclusion : For the coexistence of the general elderly and the disabled in community elderly facilities, it has been confirmed that there were some areas of negative perception of the disabled elderly, and various efforts will be needed to improve relational aggression.
