The Effect of Action of Health Promotion and Engagement Meaningful Activity on Occupational Balance of College Students Major in Occupational Therapy

Abstract

Objective : This study investigated the effect of action of health promotion and engagement meaningful activity on occupational balance of college students major in occupational therapy. Methods : A survey of 198 occupational therapy college students was conducted from December 2022 to May 2023. In order to confirm each variable Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP), Korean version of the Engagement Meaningful Activity Survey (K-EMAS), and Occupational Balance Questionnaire-Korean (OBQ-K) were used. Pearson correlation coefficient was used for the correlation of each variable for data analysis, and multiple regression analysis was used to find out the effect of action of health promotion and engagement meaningful activity on occupational balance. Results : The action of health promotion of occupational therapy college students was found to have the highest reliance of others, followed by self realization. Each variable had a significant positive correlation. The action of health promotion explained the level of occupational balance by 43.2%, and it was found that self realization and reliance of others had influence on occupational balance. Engagement meaningful activity explained the level of occupational balance by 58.9%, and the usefulness of social activities and exhibition of individual ability had influence on occupational balance. Conclusion : It was confirmed that the occupational balance of students who practice self realization and exhibition of individual ability well, maintain a comfortable relationship with others, and participate in social activities where they can provide help is high. As a result, this study presented factors to improve the occupational balance of college students.
