Effects of Artificial Intelligence(AI) Anxiety on Job Stress of Occupational Therapists in Nursing Hospitals

Abstract
Objective : This study aims to identify the level of anxiety perceived by artificial intelligence technology among occupational therapists working in nursing hospitals and to empirically investigate the effect of such artificial intelligence anxiety on their job stress. And through this, we intend to provide basic theoretical data on future job stress relief measures required in clinical settings Methods : This study was designed as a cross-sectional survey to empirically analyze the relationship between anxiety and job stress related to the adoption of medical artificial intelligence (AI) technology among 154 occupational therapists employed in long-term care hospitals over a two-month period starting in December 2025. Among the subcategories of anxiety related to artificial intelligence, anxiety about learning artificial intelligence, anxiety about the replacement of jobs by artificial intelligence, anxiety related to socio-technical ignorance, and anxiety about the form of artificial intelligence were designated as independent variables. And job stress was set as the dependent variable. Causality was verified through multiple regression analysis. Results : The job stress of occupational therapists in long-term care hospitals was found to be significantly influenced by anxiety over AI learning and anxiety over AI replacing jobs with an explanatory power of 32.3%, while it was found not to affect anxiety over sociotechnical ignorance and anxiety over the portrayal of AI. Conclusion : For the successful establishment of medical AI technology and a qualitative leap in occupational therapy clinical practice, it is necessary to avoid the one-sided top-down adoption of technology and instead adopt a gradual approach that deeply considers clinicians' psychological receptiveness. To this end, occupational therapists, as rehabilitation professionals, need to continuously develop advanced expertise that requires uniquely human, complex reasoning and deep empathy, as demonstrated in cognitive and neurological rehabilitation conducted with long-term care hospital patients. It is also considered necessary to conduct a longitudinal cohort study that will track, over the long term, changes in occupational therapists' job satisfaction and stress before and after the introduction of artificial intelligence related to future work.
