Objective : The objective of this study was understanding the procedure of self-care training in occupational therapy and exploring experienced occupational therapists’ perspectives in self-care training Method : A phenomenological study design was used to collect information regarding use of self-care training among occupational therapists working in a different settings. The data collection process was conducted by using a structured interview and survey. Result : The self-care training strategies used by occupational therapists were summarized to four main themes; 1. Different strategies for different age group, 2. Design therapeutic strategy rely on client’s natural environment, 3. Use of theoretical background: occupation-based or client-centered, or both. 4. Use of self-awareness stragety; using different method to reflect self-awareness. Conclusion : The self-care training is not just simply conduct ADL training but understanding client’s age, environment, theoretical background, and self-awareness of the client. Through eatablishing understandable self-care training strategy according to client’s age and environment, the more effective self-care training would be possible.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to identify the effect and difference of abdominal muscle strengthening exercise, back muscle stretching and multi-training on the lumbar flexibility of 20s adults. Method : The abdominal muscle strengthening exercise, back muscle stretching and multi-training were conducted 9 times targeting 21 subjects who attended K University from 2013 May 29 to June 14. Sit and Reach Tests were conducted 2 times(before and after exercise program) for flexibility test and measured data were processed with SPSS program WIN 12.0K. By the Wilcoxon signed rank test, the effectiveness of exercises are verified. By the Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test, the difference of effectiveness among the exercise groups are verified. Result : The results of this study were summerized below 1. Before and after exercise, in abdominal muscle strengthening exercise group, back muscle stretching group and multi-training group are showed statistically significant differences(p<.05), 2. There were statistically significant difference in the improvement of the flexibility between each group(p>.05). Conclusion : These data suggests that all of the 3 exercise programs are brought positive influences on the improvement of flexibility, and abdominal muscle strengthening exercises and flexibility multi-training are effective on the flexibility more than, back muscle stretching in 20s adults.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation between sociodemographic characteristics and attitude of job for occupational therapist. Method : Among 125 occupational therapists who voluntarily responded on structured survey final subject of study is total 123 persons except two occupational therapists who did not respond completely. Result : Attitude of Job was significantly different according to employment status and hospital types, and job stress was significantly different according to employment status and job directivity was significantly different according to hosipital types. Also, for correlation of job attitude, job satisfaction was high as higher job stability, lower job stress, and higher job directivity. Conclusion : To improve attitude of job, employment status should be regularized and the education and improvement of labor conditions are necessary to improve attitude of job and job directivity.

Objective : This study was aimed to survey the influence of the experience of undergraduates volunteering activities on awareness toward the disabled. Method : 259 students were chosen and structured interview was carried out using by a questionnaire. Result : The followings are the results of this study. First, students with experience of volunteering activities in institutions related to disabled have positive awareness of disabled. Second, they have positive awareness of disabled in some cases such as volunteering activity in university, interesting in new events, volunteering activity for more over a year, and assisting activities. But they have negative awareness of disabled in some cases such as no experience of volunteering activities, interesting in social relationship, and participating administration service. Conclusion : The results of this study would contribute to better volunteering activity system for the awareness toward the disabled.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to know the degree of the perceptions and the needs regarding the driving rehabilitation of students of occupational therapy. Method : Subjects are 317 students, department of occupational therapy of 4 colleges in Gyeongnam and Busan. Questionnaire consist of 15 questions of perceptions of the driving rehabilitation, 9 questions of needs of the driving rehabilitation, and 4 questions of subjects. The period of surveys was from 12, May to 12, Jun, 2013. Result : 73(23.1%) students answered that they knew about the driving rehabilitation and 47(14.8%) students answered that they experienced the driving rehabilitation. The answers about the channels of knowing and experience regarding driving rehabilitation hadthrough the college. The perceptions regarding the specialist and programs of driving rehabilitation was low compared with the knowing of the driving rehabilitation. The perception of needs regarding the driving rehabilitation for people with disabilities was high and they answered that they need the educations regarding driving rehabilitation. The 3rd grade students had high degree of perceptions and needs compared with 1st and 2ed grade students. And A college students had high degree of perceptions and needs compared with C and D college students. Conclusion : It is important that subject regarding of the driving rehabilitation include in curriculum of occupational therapy for strengthen the role of the occupational therapist in the driving rehabilitation.

Objective : This study investigates the impact of the musculoskeletal disorder prevention exercise program designed on the basis of agricultural work posture on the balance ability, Oswestry Disability level, and Psychosocial stress of participants from one rural village in Chungnam area. Method : The exercise program was provided to 21 farmers with musculoskeletal symptoms living in one village in Chungnam area. Such program was performed once a week, 90 minutes per session, for a total of twelve weeks from July 10 to October 11, 2008, and was constructed in a way to increase flexibility and muscular strength, taking agricultural work posture into account. The balance ability, Oswestry Disability Index, and Psychosocial Well-being Index scores were analyzed based on the data of 13 of the farmers who participated in the program for more than eight times and in all of the pre- and post-assessments. Result : Thirteen participants were all women who were 70.55(±6.78) years old on average. Most of them were engaged in general dry-filed farming. The parts where they mainly felt the pain were low back(69.2%) and knees(61.5%), and 46.2% responded ‘not healthy’ to the question on the overall health status. The static balance ability when standing on the right foot significantly increased from the average 9.27(±5.53) seconds before intervention to 14.22(±5.47) seconds after intervention(p<.05). The Oswestry Disability Index showed a significant change, decreasing from the average 19.84(±6.89) seconds to 14.38(±7.58) seconds(p<.05). However, there was no change in the Psychosocial Well-being Index. Conclusion : This exercise program that has been conducted for the female farmers who are mainly engaged in the dry-filed farming has contributed to the improvement of their static ability and reduction of their Oswestry Disability Index scores. It is expected that the studies on the effects of the differentiated exercise programs depending on work characteristics will make progress in the future.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of the social support and social network on the quality of life of the elderly residing in a local community. Method : The subjects of this study were 75 healthy old men and women of 13 sites of welfare centers for the disabled and public health centers and senior welfare centers in Busan and Gyeongju. A survey was conducted with a questionnaire that include general characteristics, cognitive ability, social support, social network and quality of life. The analysis was made on 63 replies except 12 subjects who had been excluded by the subject selection criteria. Result : As a result of analyzing correlation of variables affecting life quality, there was positive correlation in contact frequency(p<.05), intimacy(p<.001), and social support(p<.001). Finally, it was analyzed that the variable of intimacy (p<.001) affected life quality of general aged people living in regional community. Conclusion : It was found that intimacy of general aged people living in regional community was a major variable to affect life quality. It could be identified that intimacy which is qualitative feature of social, relational network for the aged who live passive life was important.

Objective : This study was aimed to survey the present situation and satisfaction in assistive technology of the physically disabled person. Method : 110 patients, being diagnosed with spinal cord injury and stroke, were chosen and structured interview was carried out using by a questionnaire. Result : The followings are the results of this study. First, spinal cord injury(76.2%) and stroke(72.5%) patients used the most wheelchair and mobility devices in assistive technology device. Second, they were satisfied in effectiveness of assistive technology device. Third, spinal cord injury(39.4%) patients used the most repair service in assistive technology service. Fourth, stroke(28.2%) patients used the most application and training service. Fifth, they were satisfied in professionality while were dissatisfied in service delivery program. Conclusion : The results of this study would contribute to better assistive technology for the physically disabled person.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to assess effects of Robot-assisted therapy on function of upper extremity in stroke patients. Method : A total of 11 patients suffered from stroke participated in this study. Inpatients of 4 people and outpatients of 7 people divided by 12 months conducted Robot-assisted therapy for 5∼6 weeks. Therapists selected appropriate exercise mode to patients, and patients Patients performed the reaching exercise was repeated with looking monitor provided 3-dimensional feedback. Before and after treatment of upper extremity functions was compare by Wolf Motor Function(K-WMFT), Box & Block Test(BBT), Dynamometer, average execution time. Result : Grip power, K-WMFT, BBT, average performance times were promoting in all subjects, and only showed statistically significant changes in outpatients. But outpatients did not show statistically significant changes in inpatients. Conclusion : Robotic-assisted therapy in stroke patients have a positive impact on upper extremity function that could confirm that. In the future, Robots-assisted therapy is expected to be useful for stroke patients in the area of occupational therapy

Objective : The aim of this study was to identify the effect of visual feedback on balance and ADL in patient with cerebellar ataxia. Method : Between May of 2013, visual feedback applied to cerebellar ataxia patient. The visual feedback applied five times a week for two weeks to patient who are inpatients of Dae-jeon. To assess changes in balance, we performed the LOS, Romberg, BBS, We also assessed ADL using Canadian occupational performance measure(COPM). Result : For the patient of cerebellum ataxia, we can confirm the limitation of stability, and after the intervention, we can check out the changes which are maintained at Romberg test and Berg Balance Scale. In terms of daily activities, such as taking bath, moving to somewhere, using transportation, doing the laundry, and meeting activity, the level of performance and satisfaction has increased in all five fields. Conclusion : After the visual biofeedback training, patients with cerebellar Ataxia showed more increase in balance and ADL.
